When daylight savings time ends and clocks shift back an hour for winter, the adjustment can impact everyone's sleep for a few days, with parents especially concerned about maintaining their children's sleep routines. However, there are ways to help ease children into the new schedule. For parents, even under normal circumstances, a baby’s sleep patterns can be challenging. With the time change disrupting carefully established routines, it’s no wonder that some parents feel anxious about how the shift might affect their children. According to police data shared with the children’s charity NSPCC, Snapchat is currently the most commonly used platform for online grooming. Across the UK, over 7,000 instances of "Sexual Communication with a Child" were recorded in the year leading up to March 2024, marking the highest annual count since this offense category was introduced. Out of the 1,824 cases where the platform was identified, nearly half involved Snapchat. The NSPCC expressed concerns, saying that this data shows society is "still waiting for tech companies to make their platforms safe for children." Snapchat responded by telling the BBC it has a "zero tolerance" policy for the exploitation of young people, along with additional safety features for teens and their parents. Becky Riggs, the National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for child protection, described the figures as "shocking," and emphasized that tech companies need to take responsibility for child safety on their ...

Queenstown, New Zealand, known globally as an adventure hub, has set an ambitious goal: to be the first tourist destination with a fully carbon-zero visitor economy by 2030. This target envisions travelers arriving on New Zealand's South Island, potentially via electric planes operated by Air New Zealand, and reaching Queenstown on eco-friendly transport, such as an electric gondola or a hydro-powered ferry across the scenic Lake Wakatipu. In winter, the popular ski resorts would have electric chairlifts to carry skiers and snowboarders to the peaks, minimizing their environmental footprint. Thrill-seekers could speed across Lake Wakatipu or navigate the Shotover River’s rapids in fully electric jet boats, the first of their kind globally. Even the historic TSS Earnslaw, a coal-powered steamship that has been a family favorite for decades, would be powered by hydrogen fuel. This transformation is part of Queenstown’s bold plan to redefine itself as a leader in ecotourism and set a...

Chidinma Emeneka is battling to keep her laundry business running amidst persistent power outages in Lagos, Nigeria. Inside her shop, Sparkle Inn Laundry Services, the dim reception area and slow-moving fan highlight the impact of unreliable electricity as staff wait for the generator to power up. When the generator finally roars to life, it signals more than just electricity—it represents extra costs that have become necessary due to Nigeria’s ongoing power crisis. Over the past 10 days, a major fault in the national grid has left more than a third of Nigeria’s 36 states, including parts of Lagos, without power. Ms. Emeneka, 27, is among countless business owners affected by these outages. She shared with the BBC that her business had to turn to costly generators after a six-week blackout in the past, which was caused by a power surge that damaged her electricity meter. "My meter is broken, the system to apply for a new one is down, and there’s simply no way to get electricity,”...

New Zealand gave England a tough start to their autumn series, with Mark Tele’a returning from the bench to score a pivotal try in the 76th minute, keeping the All Blacks' dominance intact. England’s narrow loss mirrored their July encounters with New Zealand, as George Ford’s final drop-goal attempt drifted wide, following an earlier missed penalty that had hit the post. In the first half, England found themselves on the defensive, trailing by just two points thanks to Marcus Smith’s steady kicking that kept the scoreline close after tries from Tele’a and Will Jordan. Early in the second half, however, Smith seized an interception and set up Immanuel Feyi-Waboso for a try, giving England a 22-14 lead. Twickenham buzzed with excitement as England fought to hold onto their advantage, but ultimately New Zealand’s late pressure paid off when Tele’a crossed the line, snatching the win. As England’s players consoled Ford, New Zealand captain Scott Barrett led his team in celebration, ...
